October 2024 was a month to remember for the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Service Unit!
On Monday, October 7 the service unit celebrated the dedication of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Girl Scout House's historical marker as the former Larchmont Gardens Station of the New York, Westchester & Boston Railway. The marker was certified by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. The celebration and marker unveiling was attended by local Girl Scouts, who took part in the presentation by telling the history of the railway and the Girl Scout house while wearing vintage Girl Scout uniforms, local politicians, and News12 Westchester.
GSHH volunteer Clara Barragan also crafted a wonderful cake to commemorate the occasion! Thank you to all who helped make this historic designation happen, and to all who attended!
The Larchmont-Mamaroneck Service Unit also celebrated its 100th Anniversary on Sunday, October 27!
Girl Scouts and supporters in the community met at the Larchmont Avenue Church, where the first Girl Scout meeting in Larchmont took place in 1924, and walked to the current Girl Scout house on Harmon Drive. Larchmont-Mamaroneck Service Unit Manager said of the event:
"Thank you to everyone who came on Sunday to celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting in Larchmont Mamaroneck! We had a great send off at Larchmont Avenue Church (where our first GS Troop met) and a high spirited walk to the Girl Scout House with cars honking and a police escort! Thank you to GSHH CEO Dr. Kari Rockwell who welcomed everyone and her husband who took wonderful photos of the event! The party at the Larchmont Girl Scout House was great fun and a huge thank you to Cathy Bennett, Fran Millar Smith and Jamie Winter for helping me plan this event and to all of the adults and older girls who volunteered. Thank you to Kathy Maxcy for lending us vintage uniforms and Juliette from the GSHH Museum! A special shout out to Eden Sigalow who won the contest to design a patch for our 100th! The girls absolutely loved our new Safe Archery equipment. We had another gorgeous cake by Clara Barragan and wonderful donations from Sabina Dorf (balloon arch) and Jason D'Oro Enterprises (lawn games and speaker). Here's to another 100 years of amazing Girl Scouting experiences!"
Thank you to all who participated and made these celebrations extra special!
