On Tuesday, March 12 - Girl Scout's 112th Birthday - the Irvington Service Unit kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration by turning the town green!
Co-Service Unit Managers Katherine Lark and Leslie Seery coordinated a celebration that saw Girl Scouts of all program levels gathering in Matthiessen Park where they were met by News12 Westchester and posed for pictures in front of the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, which was lit green for Girl Scout Day.
In addition to the bridge, the Irvington Clock Tower and the tower at the Church of St. Barnabas were also lit green in honor of Girl Scouts.
Also in attendance was Irvington Mayor, Jonathan Siegel, a representative from Assemblymember MaryJane Shimsky's office who both brought proclamations in honor of Girl Scouts and Irvington's Centennial. Rev. Gareth Evans of the Church of St. Barnabas in Irvington was also in attendance, as the church is the site of the first Girl Scout troop in the town, started by Isabel K. Benjamin.
GSHH wishes to thank the Irvington Service Unit Managers, Katherine Lark and Leslie Seery for the inception, organization, and coordination of this wonderful event that brought out so many Girl Scouts to celebrate the Movement and its history.
