Girl Scouts Lead the Way

Happy Inauguration Day, Girl Scouts! Today is a special day when young leaders across the country look to the future and imagine the possibilities. It is crucial that girls understand the role of democracy in our nation, so they can become leaders who work to improve and protect it. Dare to dream BIG today as we celebrate America’s Changemakers, and the power of every girl to change the world!
With today's inauguration, women will hold office in all three branches of the United States Government for the first time. To add to the historic nature of our new government, the 117th Congress boasts a record number of women with 122 representatives and delegates serving the American people. This is an increase of 20 women from the previous congress!
Of the women serving in the 117th congress, 55% percent are Girl Scout alums. Girl Scouts is the pre-eminent leadership program for girls, instilling leadership skills and values that will follow them for the rest of their lives, no matter how far they go in the Girl Scout program. Girl Scouts lead the way in being changemakers who move forward with courage, confidence, and character that make the world a better place!
