It’s Fun to Be a Leader/Advisor!

Why be a Leader/Advisor?

What did you do today? As a Girl Scout leader/advisor, you'll add meaningful days to girls' lives and to your own. Tackle everything from global warming to election reform. Travel to incredible places. Share your personal passions and create experiences together you'll never forget. All while having fun! Since 1912, Girl Scouts has built girls of "courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place." Girl Scout leaders/advisors are a diverse group of women and men whose expertise, skills, interests, and life experiences nurture each girl's individuality and leadership qualities.

Ready, Set, Go!

Our five-step process makes it easy to get started as a leader/advisor. Whether you choose to work directly or indirectly with girls on a short-term or long-term basis, you will get all the instruction, guidance, and support you need.

GrnBlt.pngStep 1: Complete the Volunteer Interest Form. Simply fill out the interest form and a volunteer coordinator will be in contact with you to help you schedule the next step.

GrnBlt.pngStep 2: Attend a Service Unit Welcome. Once you’ve filled out an interest form, you will be invited to a service unit Welcome Gathering. Service units are groupings of girls and adult where volunteers get together to plan events for girls, share ideas and learn.

GrnBlt.pngStep 3: Complete the Volunteer Application and Consent for Background Check. Every volunteer who works directly with girls must complete the volunteer application form which also includes a background check. Once your background check is complete, you will be notified via email.

GrnBlt.pngStep 4: Register for a Volunteer Essentials Learning Opportunity.  Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson requires all volunteer leaders/advisors to complete an Adult Learning Opportunity for their leadership position before meeting with girls. Simply go online and choose the location and time that works best for you.
