Home » Parents Why Girl Scouts? As the largest girl-serving organization in the United States, the Girl Scouts are more than three million strong, encompassing 2.3 million girls, 5 to 17 years of age; 16,000 American Girl Scouts overseas; 880,000 adult volunteers; 50 million alumnae; and 112 councils throughout the country. Reflecting the rich diversity of our country, we form a multicultural mosaic. | The Girl Scout Leadership Experience helps girls discover what they can do, learn to connect with others, and take action to improve the world around them. Our programs focus on: Science and technology – Providing opportunities to explore the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math, and introducing girls to inspiring role models in these fields.
Financial literacy — Encouraging tomorrow’s entrepreneurs today through participation in the Girl Scout Cookie Program where girls learn five vital life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
Healthy living – Recognizing that physical health, emotional health and self-esteem are inter-connected.
Environmental leadership – Combining environmental education with community action, both locally and nationally.
Global citizenship — Making the world smaller and the girl bigger as she learns she can have a global impact and a global voice.
