Girl Scout Troop Takes Action in Greenville

[ Back to News ]

June 14, 2013

DO NOT PASS “GO”: In a safety-oriented community service effort connected with achieving their Bronze Award, Junior troop 2670 of the Greenburgh/Elmsford Service Unit took on the challenge of cars illegally passing on the street leading to the Greenville School in Edgemont. They photographed the offending vehicles, organized a lobbying initiative, gathered signatures for a petition, and ultimately persuaded the Greenburgh Police Department to install a “no passing” sign. Through their effective advocacy, the girls were able to not only take part in the democratic process (rather than simply learning about it), but also to improve the safety of the students attending their school.
