As far as Girl Scout cookies slated for delivery to U.S. service personnel overseas are concerned, the journey of a thousand-plus miles will begin with short assembly lines of girls gleefully passing along cases of Thin Mints to be loaded onto heavy-duty military vehicles at the New York State National Guard Armory, 2 Dana Road, Valhalla, on Saturday, June 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Last year, Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson’s eleventh annual Operation Cookie Drop program resulted in over 60,000 boxes of cookies being donated by customers throughout the lower Hudson Valley.
As always, the program’s volunteer coordinator, Alison Bergman of Ardsley, hopes to exceed that total this year. In any event, thousands of cases of cookies will be sent to military units in places such as Kuwait and Afghanistan, as well as military hospitals stateside.
