Garden Tour Gardens on the Tour Garden Tour Survey |
The annual Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Garden Tour, Rhapsody in Bloom, offers exclusive access to private gardens, a unique opportunity for both seasoned gardeners and non-gardeners alike. Come find inspiration to bring back to your own garden or just relax and enjoy the quiet beauty and serenity of these select gardens. The self-guided tour visits a different region each year and, for an additional fee, lunch is also available, in a location convenient to the tour. Make your reservation today.
Garden Tour tickets are typically mailed two weeks prior to the tour, and indicate the location of the first stop on the tour. The remainder of the tour is self-guided. A Garden Tour program with a map and address listing for each garden will be distributed to registered participants at check-in. The Garden Tour takes place rain or shine.
Gardens on the tour typically include a variety of plantings such as perennials, annuals, herbs, grasses, ferns, shade-loving plants, flowering vines, and architecturally appealing trees and shrubs. The gardens incorporate natural landscape features such as wetlands, rivers, stone paths, rock outcroppings, and woodlands. Bridges, benches, water features, grape arbors, container displays, urns, statuary, and many other interesting elements enhance the gardens. Many of gardens have been developed and cared for completely by the owner and a number are pesticide-free. |

This year’s tour is on Saturday, July 11, 2009. A variety of beautiful and diverse privately owned gardens, located in Bedford, Katonah, North Salem and other towns in northern Westchester County, will be open for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The gardens are a potpourri of styles and sizes, reflecting the varied interests of their owners. Ranging from a garden with a formal croquet court to another described as having "an icehouse, smokehouse, spring house, and an outhouse |
with a view," there is something for everyone, novice and diehard gardener alike.
