Calling all warm blooded risk-taking Cadettes-Ambassadors; winter camping is challenging but also so much fun so come join us. For those few hardy go-getters who come and brave the freezing winter weather in just a tent, we offer the GSHH Polar Bear Award to recognize their winter camping accomplishments.
Girl Scouts will earn the award by completing the following requirements:
1.) Attend a winter overnight at one of the council camps.
2.) Sleep in a tent, tarp, lean-to, or improvised shelter.
3.) Cook at least two meals and a warm snack in the outdoors during the winter overnight.
4.) Learn 2 or more new winter survival skills (i.e. snowshoeing, emergency shelters, fire building or emergency signaling etc.)
5.) Design and build a quick outdoor energy effect stove
