Here you will find programs, events, and learning opportunities offered by Service Units or outside vendors. Travel Opportunities are listed first and in chronological order.  Workshops and Classes are listed after all trips in alphabetical order.

Travel Opportunities

 

Sow What? Is it Like to Live on a Dairy Farm?

Dates: July 16-21, 2017 (Sunday - Friday)

Description: Be part of a Vermont farm family for a week. See newborn calves and help feed them. Milk the cows. Watch how cheese is made. Learn Vermont’s sweet secret from sap to syrup. Eat like a Locavore! Berries from picking to plate; ice cream from cow to cone.

Cost of Event: $1,000/person includes everything – transportation, meals, accommodations and tours. (Payment plans available.)

Age Level: Individuals entering 9th-11th grade. Participants will earn the Sow What Journey from start to finish. Spaces limited.

Disney World 2017

Dates: August 17-23, 2017 (Friday - Thursday)

Description: Seven days/six nights in Walt Disney World at an All Star Resort; four day park hopper pass to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, and Animal Kingdom including four passes for admission to Disney water parks and/or Disney Quest; World of Physics workshop

Cost of Event: $975/person (based on four in a room) includes everything – transportation, meals, accommodations and tours. (Payment plans available.)

Age Level: Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Participants can earn parts of the Breathe or Mission Sisterhood Journeys.

Salem - Haunted Happenings

Date of Event: October 14-15, 2017 (Saturday and Sunday)

Description of Event: Come travel back in time with us to October 1692. The last execution was on September 22, 1692, and the witchcraft delusion is beginning to disappear. You should be safe! Visit the Salem Witch Museum, House of the Seven Gables, New England Pirate Museum, “Cry Innocent” the trial of Bridget Bishop, Old Burying Point, Salem’s 13 Ghosts in 3-D and Spirit of the Gables.

Cost of Event: $210/person (based on four in a room) includes transportation to and from Salem, accommodations, and several attractions.

Age Level: 7th grade and up

All about Tea Workshop

Description: This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for girls to explore the 4 types and origins of tea, learn about the history of High Tea, and sample teas via a mini tasting!

Cost: $12 per Girl Scout for the workshop (only); $22 per Girl Scout for workshop, lunch, and beverage/tea is served.  Min. 6/Max. 12.

Basic Dining Etiquette Workshop

Girl Scouts Circus Fun Day

Date: Ongoing - Friday nights and Saturdays
Location:
2 locations:  Amazing Grace Circus in Nyack, 130 First Ave, Nyack NY or Tarrytown, 50 Ichabod Lane, Tarrytown, NY

Description: Troop participants will learn all circus skills in a fun and interactive environment.  They will learn how to juggle, walk a tight wire, perform on aerial silks, tricks on static trapeze, human pyramids and create a clown skit.  Troop leaders are encouraged to participate too!  Each participant receives a circus patch, personalized certificate of completion and a clown nose.  Circus = Confidence, Imagination, Respect, Cooperation, Imagination, Success!

Green Screen Music Videos and Songwriting Workshops

Description: Making music badge, muse journeys, empowerment and FUN!!! Write and record an original song based on any journey or theme (K-12). 2 options available: 1 songwriting & recording class or 2 sessions to write a song & create a music video. Historical Society and Children's Museum Badge Programs

Level: All

Time: 10am - 6pm; closed on Mondays (11am - 5pm on Sundays)
Cost: $10 / person ($8 for members)
Location: NY Historical Society - 170 Central Park West at Richard Gilder Way (77th Street) New York, NY

Description: Experience the museum for the first time, or in a whole new way! GIrl Scout troops and families are invited to participate in exciting and educational programs that will help fulfill requirements towards a variety of badges. No RSVP required for an independent study or to visit the museum. Current exhibits can be found on their website.

 

Make-A-Movie

Date: Any Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday
Location: Your school or home

Description: We come to your school or home and Make-A-Movie with the children. We would choose a theme (Wacky News, The Jewel of the Nile, The Wacky Olympics, etc.) and we bring all the appropriate costumes, props, etc. to make the movie. All movies are improvised and can be custom fit to your group. For example, one group was learning about animal conservation, so we made a movie called “Save the Monkeys.” After making the movie, we hook the camera up to a TV and the kids watch the movie they’ve made. Muscoot Farm Patch Earning Program

Location: Muscoot Farm, 51 Route 100, Katonah, NY

Description: Make a date to visit Muscoot Farm in Somers, NY. While at the farm, have fun completing the patch earning activities found in the activity booklet. Once girls complete the patch requirements, leaders will be able to purchase a Muscoot Farm fun patch. Visit the farm anytime for a self-guided tour or call for a guided tour. Call ahead to check patch availability.  The activity booklet may be printed out ahead of time. Patch costs $2.00

Palisades Climb Adventure Group Events

Scrapbooking Workshop

Level(s): 8 years old and above

Description: Scrapbooking is a widely and increasingly practiced and fun pastime.  This workshop is a wonderful opportunity for the Girl Scouts to try their hands at creating their own personalized scrapbook.  Attendees are asked to bring photographs, printed media, and artwork sized to fit a 6"x6" scrapbook.

Cost: $27 per Girl Scout, all materials (and lunch:  sandwich and beverage of choice) included.  Minimum 6/Maximum 12.

Spa Parties

Description: We emphasize confidence and self-esteem in girls by teaching them how to feel beautiful from the inside and out.  We have workshop classes and Spa Party services for all ages including Skincare and makeup classes.  Learn basic techniques, how to care for your skin and proper application.  All products included.  Spa services:  manicures, pedicures, facials, massage, hair & makeup. Westmoreland Sanctuary Girl Scout Programs

Description: Westmoreland Sanctuary is surrounded by wooded countryside and suburban areas, Westmoreland’s 640 acres offer a variety of activities to its more than 30,000 annual visitors. Girl Scout programs are offered throughout the year.
