Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson’s museum and archives collection dates back to the early days of Girl Scouting, both locally and nationally. It contains thousands of publications (such as handbooks and calendars), periodicals (equipment catalogs, magazines, and newsletters, for example), Girl Scout uniforms and insignia, photographs, ephemera and official records of the smaller town and regional councils which, through the decades, combined to form Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson, Inc.
The large collection of Girl Scout memorabilia housed at our museum and used in our displays and traveling exhibits, includes the variety of items cited above, as well as posters, books, filmstrips, movies, slides, clippings, badges, awards, patches, and camping gear such as mess kits and jackknives.
Our museum’s collection holds special attraction for those interested in informal education for girls, women’s history, women and volunteerism, contemporary program activities for girls, women in management, adult education, and pluralism. It also serves as a resource center on Girl Scout history for GSHH’s membership, historians, archivists, and other interested groups while it provides today’s Girl Scouts with special program opportunities related to their Girl Scout heritage. Visiting the Museum Located at Camp Wendy in Wallkill, the museum is officially open for business on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with the late afternoon hours by appointment), throughout the year, weather permitting.
After school is a great time for troops/groups to visit. You can tour the museum, try on vintage uniforms, and enjoy a variety of program activities. The museum committee can also tailor a program to your group’s special interests.
