Our camps have programs to stimulate all interests. Whether you want to learn about Native American heritage, go horseback riding, canoe the Adirondacks, travel back in time, or record music in a professional sound studio, GSHH has the perfect summer adventure for you. All camp experiences offer girls the opportunity to enjoy their special interests while learning to live and grow in a group setting. Everyone participates in exciting camp activities including swimming, boating, arts and crafts, environmental education, games, and special events regardless of the program focus in which they enroll. At camp, all campers share unit "kaper" responsibilities. These are the jobs that help keep the camp organized and tidy, such as collecting firewood, cleaning up unit areas, planning activities and preparing cook-out meals. By sharing these jobs, girls learn responsibility and teamwork.
Our staff is comprised of caring adults, many of whom are prospective teachers or child care professionals. Each staff member is carefully screened for suitability to work in a camp setting, including a professional background check. Counselors participate in an intensive pre-camp orientation that includes training in risk management, safety standards, and first aid/CPR. All of our camps follow the same stringent safety standards set up by their local health departments, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., and the American Camping Association. Our camps have a nurse or emergency medical technician (EMT) on site at all times and our waterfront activities operate in accordance with American Red Cross standards.
Camp Leadership Programs such as Program Aides and Counselors in Training, are available at all our summer camps for girls ages 13 through16 years of age.
