Adult Girl Scouts at OOT

Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson (GSHH) provides quality courses delivered by skilled and enthusiastic volunteer trainers in various locations throughout the council. The courses you take as an adult volunteer will assist you in providing the best growth experiences for girls. The volunteer development managers and volunteer council facilitators are eager to assist you.

Adult Learning Requirements

  • All new volunteer leaders must receive Community Welcome Orientation prior to registering for the Leadership Essentials course. This orientation is given by a member of your Girl Scout Community Leadership Team or the membership field manager supporting your Girl Scout community. If you need assistance, contact the volunteer development department at the council’s regional office nearest you.
  • A volunteer application and criminal background check, as well as the Girl Scout adult member registration form, will be verified prior to approving you for any course.
  • Only those with confirmed course registrations should attend. Registrations will be confirmed if received two weeks prior to the deadline date. If a course is full, participants will be notified immediately. Volunteer facilitators are not prepared for any additional participants. This places an unreasonable burden on the facilitator mainly because the location may not be equipped with additional space.
  • Cancellation -- If you are unable to attend, please call the GSHH regional office nearest you to cancel as soon as possible. By canceling in advance, you allow others to register for the course and free up space for those who may have been placed on the waiting list. You may leave a message 24 hours a day. Credit to another workshop is given if a participant cancels two weeks prior to the registration deadline. Again, please remember to call the council office to cancel.

Convenient Ways to Learn – Self-Study Courses

Self-study courses are available for a minimal fee if you are unable to attend a course in person. These self-study courses are based on the class curriculum and a quiz must be completed and returned to the regional office for course credit and for approval to begin meeting with your troop or group. For more details, read the Self-Study section in this book or contact the volunteer development department in your regional office.

Registration by Mail

To register for training courses via mail, use the Adult Learning Registration Form included in this book and send to the registrar at the Girl Scout regional office nearest you. The Overnight Outdoor, First Aid & CPR, and Self-study courses have fees. Be sure to send the completed registration form, along with full payment (if applicable), to the GSHH regional office nearest you in order to enroll you for the course. Late registrations will be accepted after the deadline only if space is available. Make checks payable to "GSHH". PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH.

Registration On-Line

For your convenience, there is an Online Registration for Events and Adult Learning which you can access on the council’s website homepage www.girlscoutshh.org. Just follow the simple steps and register. Once your registration has been submitted, you will see a pop-up window that tells you, "Your registration has been successfully completed." This means only that your registration has been submitted; it does not mean you are automatically in the event/course. After the placement date, you will receive notification from the council confirming you to attend. Be sure to check the option to receive confirmation via email if that is your preference.
